You are swept into a current, one that is uncontrollable—wrathful, even. It doesn’t relent and, caught in a fiery riptide of emotion, you are overwhelmed; rage, despair, pleasure, and pain all coincide in waves, an endless tide. You’re trapped in a bitter euphoria, a restless fever. This project was meant to capture what it feels like to be caught by mania, at the precipice, before the fall. I wanted to capture that terrible ecstasy, the rhapsodies, and miseries, saturated in colors so vivid they burn.
While creating this project, we worked through translating emotions in a way that distorts and disorients. The idea was to cultivate a sense of restlessness, of constant movement and shifting. Overall, I wanted to create an image so intimate it hurt, something that wove a visceral experience, something I could look at and feel. Each photo individually explores a particular sensation while also contributing to the larger experience that defines the series.
