Not My First Rodeo

This shoot was inspired by internet culture, colors, and cowboys. When I was creating the mood board for the shoot, I decided I really wanted to make something that people could have fun looking at—especially during quarantine. We kind of improvised on set, and we had so much fun. I think the pictures really show that. I was heavily inspired by Doja Cat and cowboy movies that I’d watched in school. You can see the influence of Doja Cat in the fashion choices and the funky textures. Her video for “Rules” really hit home with me—the doorway scene at the beginning is such a clear reference to John Ford’s movie The Searchers (1956). The film is a classic, and I really was impressed by the modern and fresh turn that the music video did with it. I wanted to do something like that but with a personal touch, and I think we succeeded in the makeup and wardrobe choices my team and I made. Essentially, we went for an e-girl cowboy look.
