When I do a photo shoot, rarely do the photos represent the original idea. On this day, that was especially true. For me, photography is less about conveying one particular idea and more about releasing creative energy. One thing that remained the same from the original idea was over-the-top color. I dressed my beautiful friends Chloe and Helen up in plenty of colors, patterns, and loud jewelry and went to the top of a parking garage. Something I love about using friends as models is that it’s always a collaborative process, and the images we made together ended up feeling very strong and powerful. The bright sky paired with their colorful outfits created these really over-the-top pop-art images. It was one of those spur-of-the-moment shoots that ended up being perfect.

To me, these photos embody fun and impulsion. When I look at them, I’m reminded of the freedom and opportunities I took for granted months ago. I miss being able to just call a friend randomly and do a shoot. With these photos, I think I unknowingly captured a moment of freedom in a pre-pandemic world.
